I used to play alot of cricket when I was growing-up. I enjoyed the game so much. And much has also been said about the skills and art I learn from playing the game. You can read about it here, here and here.

Recently 14 countries flocked together to compete in the World Cup. Hosting this edition are India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh. And I've been following the game for a month now and I love every bit of it. In fact this year's world cup is the best world of all world cups. Just awesome to see the game played at it's best.

The games has come to the pinnacle with India taking on Sri Lanka in the final tomorrow. I follow the run-up to this climax and I bumped across this artciel on BBC. Where they wrote about one of the greatest batsman India has ever produced, Sachin Tendulkar. And it strike me how the writer has described the cycle of death and re-birth. It has given a new meaning to the samsara world we know and I thought it was funny.

Here is the excerpt;

In India, Sachin Tendulkar ceased being a person long ago. To a small group of friends and colleagues, he is human with all the frailties that implies. But to the vast majority he is merely a figure on television, indistinguishable from characters such as Superman and Batman.

The illusion is strengthened by the number of occasions he arrives when the team is in trouble and takes them to safety, whipping out his killer straight drive and unstoppable cover drive to deal with the enemy's vicious outswingers or off breaks.

When he does well his fans discover that life has meaning after all; when he fails occasionally they feel suicidal. Then he scores again and the wheel is set in motion once more. The cycle of birth and rebirth is never seen more clearly and more often than on the cricket fields of India.

If you are a vivid cricket fan like me, have fun watching the finals tomorrow. May the best team wins

Another quote food for thoughts;

India has a population of 1.2 billion and tomorrow 11 of them will carry the responsibility of keeping the rest happy. India play Sri Lanka in the World Cup Final
