Corruption Kills Our Hopes

In a developing nation like Malaysia, corruption is still rampant. It's happening everywhere and everyday. Not that the country is terribly corrupted, but we fell low among other countries. Malaysia is ranked 56. Pls click here to go to Transparency International to see the full report.

But I am awfully ashamed to see our neighbor Singapore ranked number one. Singapore, Denmark and New Zealand are jointly declared as the cleanest countries in the world. Followed by Finland, Sweden, Canada, Holland, Australia, Switzerland, Norway and etc.

The people of Singapore and Malaysia are of the same stock. Singapore took independence from Malaysia in 1963. And within such a short span the government has turned this tiny little country into a first world nation. Living standards have improved by leap and bounces. Average income of a Singaporean is 6 times more than a Malaysian.

My point for writing this article is to bring the awareness that corruption has a lot to do with the well being of a nation. Corruption cripples the progress of a country. Corruption hinders the smooth flow of the operation of a system in a country. Corruption kills a nation. Corruption kills our hope.

I hope you think about it the next time you deal. I strongly believe that we should lead our lives by living within the tenet of the 5 Precepts. This will bring benefit to us. This will bring benefit to the people around us. This will bring benefit to the nation.

With a joined force, we can. Let's join hands and fight corruption.
