Stoning has been a taboo to a lot of people, in a lot of country including me. We actually know very little about this mystery. Hence I did a little bit of research and try to learn more.
Stoning is a very old method of punishment. Stoning as it literally mean throwing stone on the convict till she dies. This capital punishment were enforced thousands of years ago in Judaism, Christianity and Islam. However, this capital punishment has been out-lawed since. Today it is no longer practiced at all. I cannot find any country using this form of punishment.
However, there is a lot of misconception amongst us that stoning is widely used, especially in Muslim countries where Sharia law are regulated. Like for example in the country like Iran where woman who are convicted for adultery are said to be stoned. Which is not true at all. Records says that no woman in that country has been sentenced to stoning for centuries.
Even in the country like Nigeria where it is recorded that about 2,000 woman has been caught committing adultery, but non was punished by stoning. Same as in Indonesia non was punished by stoning. And certainly not in Malaysia too. However, in remote part of Pakistan and Afghanistan where Taliban still rule, there are some incidences where woman are stoned to death. You sometimes hear sporadic news here are there.
In 2008 a production house in Iran make an award winning movie The Stoning of Saroya M. It attracted world attention because people like to watch mystical movie like this. It is just sensational. Naturally, the movie hit box office.
Well I guess over the years, people become more civilized. And even capital punishment are done in a compassionate way. Although I personally is against capital punishment. But I liked the fact that the authority around the world are carrying out execution in a less painful way.
In fact I'm also against punishment on woman only. I wonder why the men who enjoyed having sex with the women walked away free. This is just not fair at all.
I hope this article has shed some light about stoning.
Have a good day and may you be well and happy
