Being a Chinese decadence it is natural for me to practice Chinese culture. A moral culture that is civilized that bring law and order in a home and amongst the people in the community we lived in. I've learned to respect the elder. I honor my promises. I do not put blame on others. It is wrong to steal. At the diner table, we invite elder ones to eat first before we take the food and etc.

But, I wonder where does the westerner gets their moral value from? Obviously Confucianism did not reach the west in the olden days. So how did the west keep law and order at home?

Well after reading Huston Smith's book The World's Religion, I concluded that they too have a strong order to follow. That is the 10 commandments from God. It is said that 1 in every 3 people in the west has a Jew's name. The Jew's influence is far and wide. It lasted a long long time and the commandments too was brought down from generation to generation till today.

God gave the 10 commandments to the people through Moses on Mount Sinai. They are;

1.     I'm the Lord your God
2.     You shall not make for yourself an idol
3.     Do not take the name of the Lord in vain
4.     Remember the Sabbath and keep it holy
5.     Honour your father and mother
6.     You shall not kill
7.     You shall not commit adultery
8.     You shall not steal
9.     You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor
10.   You shall not convert your neighbor's wife

There is so much to learn.
