The CRTC has issued its annual Communications Monitoring Report, providing an overview of the Canadian telecommunications and broadcasting industries. Highlights of the report and a link to the full report are provided here.
The report reveals that by the end of 2010:
- the number of Canadians subscribing to wireless services grew by 8.5% to 25.8 million
- the number of Canadians who watched a video on their cellphone nearly doubled to 9% of anglophones and 4% of francophones
- wireless services made up 43% of all telecommunications revenues
- revenues increased 6.6% from $16.9 billion in 2009 to $18 billion in 2010
- wireless networks now reach approximately 99% of Canadians
- advanced wireless networks, which support smartphones and other devices that connect to the Internet, were available to 97% of the population
