The 2011 Animal Wellness Summit was conferred upon the Alberta Spay/Neuter Task Force.  This prestigious award recognized their activities with First Nations communities to mend the relationships between pets and community members.

To help create a more caring environment the Alberta Spay/Neuter Task Force provides teams and a MASH type surgical unit that travels into these communities to spay/neutre dogs and cats and to provide education  regarding basic pet care and dog bite prevention.  They have also been instrumental in assisting band councils to adopt bylaws for humane animal control.

In 2008, they lobbied ABVMA to create a special category for 'Temporary Veterinary Medical Facility' so they could deliver these services in compliance with provincial regulations. Since their inception they have brought services to more than 2,295 animals.

This group is well known for collaborative efforts with other stakeholders such as Calgary Humane Society [their adjunct clinic], the University of Calgary Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Olds College, Robertson College and the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology.  Congratulations to the Alberta Spay/Neuter Task Force for being recognized by their peers across North America.
